Director, Women in Data®
The underrepresentation of women in data, tech and AI remains a pernicious issue, with significant implications for innovation, inclusion and business transformation.
According to our ‘State of the Nation’ research, for every four men that join the industry, there is less than one woman; and 50% of those women will leave by the midpoint in their career, resulting in an unacceptable loss of talent and expertise at a time of acute skills shortage.
Challenging stereotypes for women in tech
At Women in Data®, we believe that visible, relatable role models play a crucial part in attracting and retaining women in the industry by challenging stereotypes, showcasing achievement and building a sense of belonging. It is for this reason that we created the Women in Data® Twenty in Data and Tech. Now in its 8th series, it acknowledges women who not just demonstrate excellence but are determined to pay it forward and be beacons for other women.
Fostering strong female role models
is not just beneficial to women.
Promoting women through visibility
When women see others succeeding in data and AI, they are more likely to envision similar paths for themselves by breaking down internalised bias and expanding perceptions of what is possible. We expect our Women in Data® role models to do more than inspire. They provide mentorship, guidance and advocacy, which in turn creates more inclusive cultures where women feel seen and valued.
Ultimately, fostering strong female role models is not just beneficial to women. It is a strategic imperative for the future of industry and our society, ensuring better outcomes for all.
