The Smart revolution is already underway in Manchester
Smart Cities In Manchester, we run a Smart City - one that uses new technologies and ways of working to help us understand the needs of our residents and businesses better and optimise our public services to improve how people live, work and play, move, learn and organise.
One aim of our Manchester Smarter City Strategy is to utilise smart infrastructure to enable us to make efficiency savings and decrease our impact on the environment whilst delivering the vital infrastructure our residents need.
By replacing 56,000 lampposts with a centrally operated LED system, we have reduced our costs by 60 per cent and decreased our carbon output by 50 per cent. This has also created the opportunity to develop a more collaborative approach to city management allowing partners to access the lighting system when needed, such as enabling the police to increase light levels for CCTV purposes.
